Get to know the writer:
What is your screenplay about?
The Last Indian War is the inspirational true-life story about football’s origin and one of the greatest games ever played – the quest for the 1912 national championship between Native American Indians and the Army Cadets of West Point.
What genres does your screenplay under?
True Story/Historical/Western/Sports
Why should this screenplay be made into a movie?
This is the ultimate underdog movie. It’s about a group of Native American Indian children kidnapped by the US Military that go on and basically invent the modern game of American football. They fight racism and overcome so much to prove to themselves – and the world – that they have worth and dignity and that by working together they can achieve anything.
How would you describe this script in two words?
Truly Inspirational.
What movie have you seen the most times in your life?
That’s a tough one. Probably Star Wars.
How long have you been working on this screenplay?
Including research? About 10 years.
How many stories have you written?
This is my second.
What motivated you to write this screenplay?
It’s an amazing story – and an amazing part of American and sports history – that I knew nothing about. I also have a personal connection to the story – my grandfather bought his first house from Pop Warner.
What obstacles did you face to finish this screenplay?
Keeping true to the characters. These were real people and I feel an incredible responsibility to get their story right, but also to try and do so in an entertaining way that audiences can relate to.
Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?
Curling.
Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?
Find a story you’re passionate about. That passion will keep you motivated when times get tough.
